RESOURCES
HOW RESOURCES SUPPORT OUR MISSION
We believe that our stakeholders need to have voice in developing our collection; it needs to reflect their interests, their needs for information, and the demands of the curriculum. To that end, we actively solicit requests through a QR code that leads to a Microsoft Form so we can add requests to our orders. Requestors get books or relevant materials checked out to them first, so they know they've been heard. They know we mean what we say, and that we keep our word. As a result, our circulation reflects their enthusiasm for the collection!
PRINT AND DIGITAL REFERENCE RESOURCES
In addition to our physical collection, Dodgen Library Learning Commons relies heavily on the resources available in the Cobb Digital Library, especially ebooks from the Cobb Public Library in addition to our digital collection on Sora. We continually refer teachers to the Immersive Reader feature in Microsoft Edge for students who need more read-aloud support for any online content.
GENREFICATION
Although the previous library media specialist had taken efforts to genrefy the collection, changes were made during the summer of 2021 to make the collection more accessible to patrons. In addition to the collection undergoing heavy weeding, books were grouped together by genre (indicated by color-coded labels) and signage developed to clearly delineate to students the types of books housed in the genre. Related genre types, too, were housed near each other to make book recommendations easy!
Not only did we highlight these changes in our Library Orientation, but as a separate activity, we gave a "genre personality quiz" to help kids find books in genres that connected with their personalities as well as related nonfiction items that might hold interest.

STEM INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES AND PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS
As one of only 95 Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts in Georgia and 800 worldwide, the librarian takes special care to infuse lessons with technology, such as new features in Powerpoint or Flip, or using Forms to gather data. We demonstrate to students how they can create Escape Rooms using password-protected One Note pages and integrating Flip videos as clues. We want to ensure that students see the value of these tools to streamline their processes to enhance their productivity.
