INTENTIONAL SPACES
Under the leadership of Dr. Alford, our Dodgen Library Learning Commons has undergone a transformation that represents the shift in philosophy of what a library truly is. Spaces were cleared for what is now considered the crown jewel of the LLC, our Makerspace, which now serves as a coveted destination for many students to develop their creative problem-solving strategies after completing academic work in their classrooms.
HOW SPACES SUPPORT OUR MISSION
By clearly designating our spaces by purpose yet allowing for flexibility of arrangement, students, teachers, and staff can find purpose wherever they are in the Library Learning Commons. We adapt our space for the needs of our community, whatever those may be.

MAIN SPACE TRANSFORMATION
Although the Dodgen Foundation had generously provided funding for flexible furnishings in 2017, the library lacked purpose-defined spaces. Furniture had no "home" or function, and the space lacked organization. Additionally, unused materials and outdated resources were cluttering the space, and this also hindered clarity of purpose. A massive cleanup under Dr. Alford's tenure allowed for our Makerspace to be created for students as well as a teacher workspace and a staff Learning Lounge.

SUPPORT FOR DEVICES
With the advent of the Learning Everywhere, students suggested having additional places to charge their laptops. We took advantage of power outlets on the floor and in a central pole with power to create 12 outlets for student use.
